Model trains

Make your own model train

Just cut around the edge, fold and insert the tabs in the slots to make a model engine carriage. You might like to make a wide slot in the top and you can turn it into a train money box.

Version 1
This is a coloured cut out for you to make.

Version 2
For those who like to colour in or paint, here is an uncoloured cut out model for you to make.

Version 3
For those of you who would like to make a bigger train, here is your chance! Version 3 has a cut out drawing on a 2 cm grid. All you need to do is draw up a bigger grid, for example a 4 cm grid, and then copy the drawing carefully into the squares. This is called enlarging and is a lot of fun. You will end up with a much larger train to colour in or paint, cut out, fold and slot together.

If you want to you can use this pattern to make carriages for your engine. Use the same outline but change the position of the doors and windows. To give you some ideas of carriage designs try visiting Our Trains. It shows some drawings of different kinds of trains.

Have fun!
