The State Government has a plan to reduce greenhouse
emissions. This plan will help Australia meet its international
commitments under Kyoto Protocol. Increased public transport
use will help reverse the rapidly growing greenhouse gas emissions.
This will not only improve air quality but also reduce transport
costs and increase NSW's competitive advantage.
Another strategy to increase air quality is to promote
the use of public transport for those travelling to work.
A number of initiatives have already been undertaken by the
State Government these include improving train services to
commuters,
expanding the rail network and better planning of urban developments
to reduce the need for travel by car.
